Black-Owned Bookstores
Angela Davis famously said “In a racist society it is not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist.” Part of that journey is learning, digging deep into the history of Blacks in America, and understanding the role of white people in their oppression.
While reading alone isn’t enough, it’s a step in the right direction. As you begin your work as an anti-racist, begin supporting Black-owned businesses. While you’re purchasing books to educate yourself on anti-racism and Black history, make sure you’re buying them from Black-owned bookstores whenever you can.
Remember that these are independent book sellers, not Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Shipping times may vary, particularly for top selling anti-racism books that have started to sell out nationwide.
